National Occupational Standards for Learning, Development and Support Services for Children, Young People and Those Who Care for Them
The project to develop National Occupational Standards and a Qualification Framework for those delivering learning, development and support for children, young people and those who care for them is now complete, with the newly developed National Occupational Standards, Qualifications Framework and accompanying Value Base and Assessment Strategy having gained approval from the UK Coordination Group (UKCG).
The project was commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and managed jointly by PAULO, ENTO and TOPSS
The Standards are relevant to all staff employed in Education Welfare, as Learning Mentors, those working within Connexions services and related services UK wide. They will cover a variety of career structures and qualifications pathways.
The Qualifications Framework (PDF file size 27KB) consists of a catalogue of units including three specialist strands reflecting the needs of Education Welfare, Learning Mentors and other Support Services, including Connexions.
The Assessment Strategy (PDF file size 35KB) includes details of the occupational competence required for assessors and internal verifiers and defines the roles of others who may be involved in the assessment process.
The standards are underpinned by a Value Base (PDF file size 10KB) providing a statement of values which should be adhered to by all those working with children, young people and their carers. The Value Base was developed in consultation with practitioners and sector bodies.
A leaflet with a brief overview of the Standards is available from DfES Publications, Telephone: 0845 60 222 60 quoting reference number: NOS/LEA/JAN04. Click here to view and download the leaflet. (PDF file size 365KB)
