Welcome to the Europe Open for Professions website

Any national of a Member State of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland has the right to work, to seek work, to set up business or to provide services in any other Member State.

You are free to pursue your profession in any Member State as long as no law exists which requires specific national qualifications to access the profession (these professions are unregulated). However, in most Member States, access to certain professions is restricted to holders of specific qualifications (these are regulated professions).

Click here for a list of regulated profession in the UK.

If the profession you wish to pursue on a permanent basis is regulated you must obtain recognition of your home state qualification before you can start work.

If you intend to work on a temporary basis in the UK and the profession you wish to pursue is a regulated profession you must inform the competent authority before you start work.

UK nationals wishing to obtain recognition elsewhere in the EU should seek information from the contact point in the other Member State. They will tell you whether the profession you wish to pursue is regulated in their territory and the authority that deals with the recognition of  qualifications.
