INTRODUCTION

The 2002 Green Paper 14-19: Extending opportunities, raising standards set out proposals to make some significant changes to the performance tables. These proposals included the reporting of a wider range of qualifications in the secondary school tables so as to include the achievements of pupils who take qualifications other than GCSEs or GNVQs at age 15.

This booklet contains the results of a pilot study designed to test and evaluate the reporting of achievements in all approved qualifications for pupils at the end of compulsory schooling. We are greatly indebted to those schools that volunteered to participate in this pilot and willingly checked additional data.

The pilot study tests the practicalities of collecting data for all approved qualifications and presenting it using a revised point score devised by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). The following paragraphs describe the background to the pilot study. This is followed by the pilot results. A technical annex at the back of the booklet explains the point scores and calculations in more detail.
