KEY STAGE 2 TO KEY STAGE 3
- Pupils aged 13
- Total number of pupils aged 13 at the start of the 2000/2001 school year.
- Pupils eligible for KS3
- All pupils - including those with special educational needs - are eligible for assessment under the National Curriculum when they reach the end of Key Stage 2. Most will be aged 14 at the end of the school year, but some will be younger or older. The total includes all eligible pupils on the school roll at the time of the tests in May 2001 - regardless of whether or not they sat the test (for example because a pupil was absent or disapplied).
- Number and percentage of eligible pupils with SEN
- Number of pupils eligible for the Key Stage 3 tests in the 2000/2001 school year with special educational needs (SEN). Some of these pupils may not have taken the tests - because they were working at a level below that assessed by the tests, or because they were disapplied. This will affect the school's overall results.
- L5 +
- Level 5 or above: The percentage of eligible pupils achieving Level 5 or above in the test - Level 5/6 is that expected of most 14 year olds. This percentage is based on all eligible pupils, including those who were absent or disapplied at the time of the test and did not therefore achieve a result.
- A/D
- Absent or disapplied: The percentage of eligible pupils who were absent or disapplied at the time of the test. Each school's results are based on the achievements of all its eligible pupils, including any absent or disapplied pupils.
- Absent
- Absent pupils: Some pupils were absent from school at the time some or all of the tests were taken in May 2001 - perhaps due to illness - and did not achieve a test level.
- Disapplied
- Disapplied pupils: The National Curriculum assessments have been designed to make sure that as many children as possible can be assessed. Parents cannot withdraw their children from any part of the National Curriculum. There may, however, be a very small number of pupils who are not able to take part in some or all of the assessment arrangements, even allowing for the full range of special arrangements that can be made. Usually this only happens if all or part of the National Curriculum is not suitable for a pupil because he or she has certain special educational needs. The assessments are designed to cater for most pupils with special educational needs.
- Value added measure
- The value added measure is the value added score plus 100. The value added score is based on progress between KS2 and KS3. Please see the Technical Annex for more information about the calculation of value added.
- Coverage
- The percentage of KS3 eligible pupils included in value added calculation.
- England Average
- Includes all schools.
KEY STAGE 3 TO GCSE/GNVQ
- Pupils aged 15
- Total number of pupils aged 15 at the start of the 2000/2001 school year and on roll at the time of the Annual Schools' Census. This includes pupils who did not attempt any GCSEs or GNVQs.
- Pupils with SEN
- The number and percentage of 15 year olds with special educational needs (SEN) with and without statements of special educational needs.
- GCSE/GNVQ results
- GCSE results are shown for all the pupils in each school who were aged 15 at the start of the 2000/2001 school year. All the results achieved by these pupils in 2001 (and in earlier years if they took GCSEs when they were younger than 15) are included as long as the pupils were on roll at the school at the time of the Annual Schools' Census. This shows what GCSEs pupils in each school have achieved by the time they reach school-leaving age. The results of some pupils who took exams early and since moved to a different school or college will be shown against the school where they took their examinations. Some pupils take their examinations later because of illness, because they are from overseas, or for other reasons. The results of these pupils - aged 16 or over at the start of the 2000/2001 school year - are not shown. There are 8 GCSE pass grades ranging from A* to G. The starred A recognises outstanding achievement and was awarded to pupils for the first time in 1994.
- 5+A*-C
- The percentage of 15 year olds who gained five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C - the standard normally needed to prepare them for study for GCE A/AS level examinations or the more advanced vocational qualifications.
- 5+A*-G
- The percentage of 15 year olds who gained five or more passes at grades A* to G.
- No passes
- The percentage of 15 year olds who reached school leaving age with no GCSE or GNVQ passes.
- Average point score
- The GCSE/GNVQ average point score per 15 year old. The average point score is calculated by dividing the total GCSE/GNVQ points achieved by the number of 15 year olds. This provides a fuller picture of the GCSE and GNVQ achievements of pupils of all abilities.
- Value added measure
- The value added measure is the value added score plus 100. The value added score is based on progress between KS3 and GCSE/GNVQ. Please see the Technical Annex for more information about the calculation of value added.
- Coverage
- The percentage of 15 year olds included in value added calculation.
- Av. no. GCSE/GNVQ
- The average number of GCSE/GNVQs taken by pupils included in value added calculation. This figure is useful when read alongside the average GCSE/GNVQ point score.
- Mobility
- The percentage of pupils included in value added calculation at the school for both KS3 and GCSE/GNVQ.
- England Average
- Includes all schools.
