The Department has just run a national consultation on how to improve the lives of children and families in Britain.
It gathered a range of opinions and suggestions from people across the country. These, along with the views of experts in and outside the Department, will feed into the Children’s Plan, which will be published at the end of this year.
This evidence report assembles hard facts and figures about children and young people, and analyses the challenges the Department faces in helping them all to lead fulfilling lives.
The review's overall findings are positive, and show that for most children things are good. Virtually all children say that they are happy, healthy and cared for by their families. They are enjoying their childhood and are increasingly well-educated.
However, the report also suggests that the modern world presents new challenges for families. Many parents say they need more support and information. And it shows the Department has to do more for a minority of children who are not seeing the benefits of change and investment.
