School leaving Date for 16 Year Olds

Summary of contents
This Circular provides information on the introduction of a single school leaving
date in June for England and Wales under section 8(4) of the Education Act 1996. It also
provides advice on the consequences for schools and others, and answers come of the
questions which were raised during the recent DfEE consultation on the proposed date for
1998 and subsequent years.
The Circular also provides a draft letter which
schools may wish to send out to the parents of children who might have been expected to
leave school at Easter or at the end of May.
