Circular number 11/97

School leaving Date for 16 Year Olds

Summary of contents

This Circular provides information on the introduction of a single school leaving date in June for England and Wales under section 8(4) of the Education Act 1996. It also provides advice on the consequences for schools and others, and answers come of the questions which were raised during the recent DfEE consultation on the proposed date for 1998 and subsequent years.

The Circular also provides a draft letter which schools may wish to send out to the parents of children who might have been expected to leave school at Easter or at the end of May.
