State of the Cities database

DescriptionThe State of the Cities database is produced by the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG)

The database contains updated data which were used to underpin the analysis contained in the State of the English Cities report published in March 2006. It allows users to identify in greater detail recent changes in English cities and will allow future monitoring of cities and the impact of policies.

Around 60 indicators are available for 56 cities in England (built up or urban areas with a population of 125,000 or more).

State of the Cities is a tool which allows the generation of reports about Cities, City Regions, Town Centres and Retail Cores. The information in these reports comes from a broad range of themes and subjects including education.

Reports can be downloaded or printed directly from this site, and the raw data which underpins the reports can be obtained in a Microsoft Excel file for further analysis.
