Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1370 per pupil in real terms to Knowsley Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 43 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 2265 in 1997 to 159 by January 2005.
  • 270 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 480 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 71 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 54 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 69 per cent from 57 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 77 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 73 per cent in mathematics in Knowsley LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Knowsley LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 23 per cent in 1998 to 43 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 3700 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
