Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1390 per pupil in real terms to Liverpool Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 44 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 5169 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 770 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 1240 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 71 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 56 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 68 per cent from 55 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 72 per cent in mathematics in Liverpool LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Liverpool LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 31 per cent in 1998 to 47 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 9200 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
