Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1270 per pupil in real terms to Sefton Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 46 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 3782 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 420 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 740 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 80 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 71 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 79 per cent from 70 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 84 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 81 per cent in mathematics in Sefton LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Sefton LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 44 per cent in 1998 to 57 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5400 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
