Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1220 per pupil in real terms to Bury Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 46 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 2936 in 1997 to 293 by January 2005.
  • 320 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 420 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 77 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 72 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 75 per cent from 74 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 84 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 81 per cent in mathematics in Bury LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Bury LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 47 per cent in 1998 to 57 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 3800 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
