Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1410 per pupil in real terms to Oldham Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 50 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 4000 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 390 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 770 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 72 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 57 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 71 per cent from 57 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 75 per cent in mathematics in Oldham LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Oldham LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 37 per cent in 1998 to 50 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5500 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
