Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1450 per pupil in real terms to Rochdale Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 51 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 3454 in 1997 to 124 by January 2005.
  • 580 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 850 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 68 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 58 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 68 per cent from 59 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 75 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 73 per cent in mathematics in Rochdale LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Rochdale LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 36 per cent in 1998 to 49 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 4700 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
