Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1430 per pupil in real terms to Hartlepool Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 51 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 1033 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 210 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 420 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 70 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 60 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 71 per cent from 63 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 79 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 78 per cent in mathematics in Hartlepool LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Hartlepool LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 35 per cent in 1998 to 51 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 2100 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
