Education
- Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1620 per pupil in real terms to Middlesbrough Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 55 per cent.
- The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 879 in 1997 to 0 by January 2005.
- 320 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
- 450 MORE support staff than in 1997
- Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 72 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 55 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 71 per cent from 57 per cent in 1997.
- Provisional figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 71 per cent in mathematics in Middlesbrough LA.
- GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Middlesbrough LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 28 per cent in 1998 to 45 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
- In 2005 there were 3300 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
