Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1300 per pupil in real terms to Stockton-on-Tees Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 47 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 1016 in 1997 to 31 by January 2005.
  • 170 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 460 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 60 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 74 per cent from 62 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 81 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 80 per cent in mathematics in Stockton-on-Tees LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Stockton-on-Tees LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 40 per cent in 1998 to 55 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 3900 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
