Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1090 per pupil in real terms to Derbyshire Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 41 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 10456 in 1998 to 1072 by January 2005.
  • 1050 MORE teaching assistants than in 1998
  • 1470 MORE support staff than in 1998
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 77 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 65 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 75 per cent from 65 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 80 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 77 per cent in mathematics in Derbyshire LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Derbyshire LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 46 per cent in 1998 to 55 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 14400 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
