Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1180 per pupil in real terms to Derby Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 41 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 4048 in 1998 to 62 by January 2005.
  • 490 MORE teaching assistants than in 1998
  • 630 MORE support staff than in 1998
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 74 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 61 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 71 per cent from 58 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 73 per cent in mathematics in Derby LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Derby LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 38 per cent in 1998 to 53 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 5600 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
