Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1080 per pupil in real terms to East Sussex Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 37 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 6433 in 1998 to 283 by January 2005.
  • 960 MORE teaching assistants than in 1998
  • 1390 MORE support staff than in 1998
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 74 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 63 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 72 per cent from 61 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 75 per cent in mathematics in East Sussex LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in East Sussex LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 47 per cent in 1998 to 54 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 8700 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
