Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1330 per pupil in real terms to Leicester Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 44 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 2224 in 1998 to 62 by January 2005.
  • 650 MORE teaching assistants than in 1998
  • 940 MORE support staff than in 1998
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 65 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 52 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 63 per cent from 54 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 68 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 67 per cent in mathematics in Leicester LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Leicester LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 35 per cent in 1998 to 44 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 6900 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
