Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1280 per pupil in real terms to Peterborough Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 43 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 1724 in 1999 to 124 by January 2005.
  • 530 MORE teaching assistants than in 1999
  • 610 MORE support staff than in 1999
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 73 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 55 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 72 per cent from 53 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 76 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 74 per cent in mathematics in Peterborough LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Peterborough LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 41 per cent in 1998 to 53 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 3800 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
