Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £1430 per pupil in real terms to Halton Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 49 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 995 in 1999 to 0 by January 2005.
  • 130 MORE teaching assistants than in 1999
  • 250 MORE support staff than in 1999
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 74 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 61 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 71 per cent from 58 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 78 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 73 per cent in mathematics in Halton LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Halton LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 34 per cent in 1998 to 47 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 2600 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
