Education

  • Pupil funding - For 2005/06, this government has allocated an extra £960 per pupil in real terms to Hertfordshire Local Authority since 1997/98, an increase of 32 per cent.
  • The number of 5,6 & 7 year olds in classes over 30 has FALLEN from 11366 in 1997 to 665 by January 2005.
  • 2030 MORE teaching assistants than in 1997
  • 2430 MORE support staff than in 1997
  • Primary school results - Revised figures for 2005 show that 81 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English up from 72 per cent in 1997. In Maths this number is up to 76 per cent from 68 per cent in 1997.
  • Provisional figures for 2005 show that 84 per cent of eleven year olds reached the required standard in English and 80 per cent in mathematics in Hertfordshire LA.
  • GCSE - The percentage of secondary school pupils in Hertfordshire LA achieving 5 or more good GCSEs is up from 54 per cent in 1998 to 61 per cent in 2005 (provisional).
  • In 2005 there were 24000 free part-time early education places taken up by 3 and 4 year olds in maintained, private, voluntary and independent providers
