  • There were 9.7 million full-time and part-time pupils in 33,700 schools in 2007/08, compared with 9.3 million pupils in 34,600 schools in 1990/91.
  • Eighty-three per cent of 16-year olds and 70 per cent of 17-year olds were in full-time post-compulsory education and Government-supported training (GST) in 2006/07.
  • There were 3.6 million further education students during the academic year 2006/07, compared with 2.2 million in 1990/91.
